Do you think business cards are “outdated” marketing? Learn the “modern way” to use them from an animated video professional 🙂
As you may have seen on the site, I’ve been working on a sitcom series entitled “1099”. Over the past few months, I’ve been making a series of animation shorts based on 1099. This is episode 1 of 1099 entitled “Crappy Cards”. It features a Philadelphia based videographer and a clever idea on how to use business cards.
Wile I like the idea of pitching a full length sitcom series to studios, it’s still feels like giving up a child to adoption. The idea of a concept and screenplay sitting and collecting dust, awaiting a potential suitor, didn’t sit well with me either. So from the get go I’ve always wanted to produce the episodes myself. However, live action episodes 22 minutes long are quite a chore for a project made in your spare time and self funded since it’s not a corporate or commissioned video.
So instead of waiting, I decided a while back to produce shorter episodes myself. I’ve always been into animation as well as live action. In fact the pilot episode of the full length version of 1099 had quite a few segments that were intended to be in animation. And since I wanted this to be a series, animation works around actors schedules better than live action. You can get plenty of great actors for a short film or even a feature as a SINGLE PROJECT. However getting them to agree to do a series of live action shorter episodes could be a potential setback over the span of a year or so, on top of the financial costs of securing locations, legalities, etc. Animation solved those problems and allows for a self produced series to continue more efficiently than live action.
1099 was made using Anime Studio Pro 11, with some help in After Effects. For the record, the 3D modeling was done WITHIN Anime Studio Pro’s 3D modeling tools, using layer effects for shading. Smith Micro / Anime Studio Pro recently featured 1099 on their Facebook and Twitter pages
