“Screwed” is an animated spec commercial made for a crowdsourcing campaign, about Resort Fees. In Las Vegas, there’s a bait and switch tactic many hotel resorts use. They’ll promise a low price to stay at their resort, then you get slammed by huge fees. Rent the room for $5 a night, but get billed $15 dollars for morning newspaper delivery, $12 bottled water delivery, $100 for cleaning…you get the point. Some resorts wanted to show they don’t practice this form of bait and switch and started a crowdsourcing contest and this is my entry.
I used Adobe Illustrator for the characters. For animation, I used Apple Motion, with Anime Studio Pro for lip synching. I currently use After Effects now since Apple Motion is unofficially dead, but I do miss Apple Motion’s ability to make objects reflective, which After Effects does not do unless you want to turn on ray tracing 🙁
